The geometry of the HS118 has been so well designed that when configured as a stack of 2 (or best 4), it throws most of the radiated energy in front of the stack, in the usable frequency band. The latter configuration is so useful that it almost completely out rules the need for a cardioid pattern sub or configuration. At an efficiency of up to 8 times that of a direct radiating stack, the HS118 has plenty of juice even from a moderately powered amplifier. Carefully designed compression and suspension chambers have resulted in low inertia and incredible agility overcoming sluggishness inherent to ordinarily designed/manufactured horn subwoofers. The HS118 is intended to be driven actively with a DSP at the front end.
